sghjsadgh.jpg

The League of Legends twitter tweeted a 11.2 patch notes correction - the Shan Hai Scrolls Cho'Gath, Jhin, Nautilus, and Neeko skins will actually be releasing on January 28th.

"📢Attn: Shan Hai Scroll skins release date correction! There was an error in the 11.2 patch notes, and the actual release date is set for Thursday Jan. 28th after 1pm PST. Apologies for the miscommunication and thanks for your understanding!😅"

header.jpg The 11.2 patch notes have been updated with several bugfixes that went out on January 21st.

midpatchupdate.jpg

Extra context from twitter:

• Riot Scruffy noted a bugfix for MMR:
"We have an update coming in 11.2 that fixes an MMR bug and boosts LP gains. We wanted to both improve the current LP experience but also find the root cause and be sure it's fixed.
After you get some games in on 11.2 let us know how you're feeling about it.
More details:"

• Riot August noted a bugfix for Rengar's Emp Q :
"So there's a Rengar bug that made its way to live where Empowered Q is giving too little attack speed. We found a fix, should be micropatched sometime today."

Choncc's Top-Secret Dumpling Recipe

FoB_DumplingSprite_Header.jpg

Want to celebrate the TFT mid-set launch with a perfect dumpling? Choncc's got you covered - "CHONCC’S EYES ONLY! DO NOT READ!"

"Translated by arcane language experts from its original draconic.

TOP SECRET! CHONCC’S EYES ONLY! DO NOT SHARE!

Makes 500 yum lumps [translation: dumplings]—just enough for a hundred party people [festival attendees] or as a light snack for me, Choncc.

List of ingredients:
• 21 sprinkles of cloud dust
• 28 shakes of crunch greenies
• 168 slurps of pig wiggles
• 112 sea puffs
• 24 NOPE, NOT ENOUGH
• 36 STILL NEEDS MORE
• 42 stinky lumps
• 42 fistfuls of grass
• 21 squishes of spicy root
• 7 splashes of Fuwa tears
• Oil of 28 Shisa hairs
• Candy sand, thirsty sand, and sneezy sand to taste
• One whopping dollop of lufu*
*There is no direct translation for this term, but the nearest would be: love
First, add Fuwa tears to the cloud dust and squish until smooth and sticky, then roll into long dough worms. Let the worms rest for a while, because they must be tired after all that smashing.
Next, add the rest of your ingredients to a really big bowl. Pick up the bowl and bump-a-rump [possibly: dance] around to mix up all the meat. Don’t stop bump-a-rumping until the meat mix looks like Bellswayer barf. That’s how you know it’s good.
Now, wake up the dough worms. Use your claws to cut them into small pieces, then roll them out into circles. (Tip: circles are the best shape, because they look like gold coins.) Roll the meat mixture into baby-bite-sized balls and place one in the middle of each circle. Wrap each meatball in the dough like a special present.
NOTE TO SELF: FOR BEST RESULTS, DO NOT EAT YET! I KNOW IT IS HARD BUT YOU MUST RESIST!
If you made it this far, good job. I am proud of you, me. (If you were not able to resist the delicious dumplings, please go back to step one.) All you have to do now is cook the dumplings one of two ways:
Throw all 500 dumplings in a giant pot of bubble [likely: boiling] water until they float to the top. Or, breathe hot hot fire onto the dumplings until they’re nice and crispy.
You’re all done! Serve with Choncc’s world-famous spicy dipping sauce. The top secret recipe for the sauce can be found in the [ILLEGIBLE]. But you already knew that, me.
Happy Lunar New Year, and happy eating!
Please note: This recipe was crafted for a 328,991,572 calories per day dragon diet, and is not recommended for consumption by mere mortals. Eat at your own risk"

Miscellaneous

• Reina Sweet tweeted several changes for ARURF, which will be returning in the there were some upcoming changes to ARURF in the next event:

[1] "With this next run of URF, there will be quite a few changes to better embrace the preseason item rework. These changes are intended to let you engage with the item system more fully without hitting clear traps.

Changes include: (1/3)

[2] Instead of 80% CDR you now get +300 Ability Haste. This stacks with other sources of Ability Haste

Lethal Tempo and Ultimate Hunter are no longer disabled

If you're a mana champ: Bonus mana is converted to HP (40% rate) and bonus mana regen is converted to HP (100% rate)

(2/3)

[3] The gold per 10 items will be disabled though. Their minion gold penalty they give is at such an extreme penalty that is difficult to perceive that not having them available would ultimately lead to better experiences, especially for newcomers to URF.

(3/3)

[4] ARURF for this run.

We've found many different players enjoy each of them, which is why they've been alternating.

• Riot Penrif provided a breakdown of some server issues during Clash this weekend on the EU server:

[1] Hey everyone, long time no tweet. I’m tech lead for League, and I’d like to shed a little light on League's instability in Europe of late. (1/7)

[2] The outages have been caused by malicious internet traffic, colloquially known as a “goddamn DDoS.” It's worth clearing up that the issues affecting Clash over the weekend weren't due to anything with Clash, just the timing of the attack. (2/7)

[3] We use non-standard communication protocols for some of our software while most of the anti-DDoS technology development has focused on HTTP because the interwebs mostly is just webs. That means that we can't always just reach for The Thing Everyone Does When DDoSed. (3/7)

[4] As can be seen, mitigating this new type of DDoS attack is a work in progress. A lot of network folks have been heads down figuring out how to filter out this traffic since the events over the weekend. It's hard work, and I thank them profusely for it (4/7)

[5] I do wish I could tell you more specific details, but security stuff like anti-DDoS does require secrecy. Getting anywhere near the nerdy details with y'all would arm the attackers with more useful information, and that's not worth the fun we'd have (5/7)

[6] Any case, I wanted to get what we could safely disclose about it out to y'all - it's important to us that you know we care about service stability and work hard to keep it as high as we can. (6/7)

[7] We know that explaining the outage doesn't make up for it, and it's on us to make them as rare as possible. (7/7)

• Speaking of EUW server issues, Riot Support tweeted out a note on the Jan 22nd sever instability:
"Public address loudspeaker [LoL-EUW] Today’s outage was not caused by a DDoS, but a hardware failure in a critical system serving EUW. An incident report will be published with details soon."

Lore

Here's Viego's in-client bio:

"Once ruler of a long-lost kingdom, Viego perished over a thousand years ago when his attempt to bring his wife back from the dead triggered the magical catastrophe known as the Ruination. Transformed into a powerful, unliving wraith tortured by an obsessive longing for his centuries-dead queen, Viego now stands as the Ruined King, controlling the deadly Harrowings as he scours Runeterra for anything that might one day restore her, and destroying all in his path as the Black Mist pours endlessly from his cruel, broken heart.

viego-color-splash.jpg

"Each time Viego thought of her face, it looked a little different.
Sometimes, the eyes were just too far apart, or too close together. Or her cheeks were a little too thin or a little too wide. Sometimes, her hands lacked the calluses of a seamstress, but other times, they were gnarled and thick from long days holding scissors and needles. She wore a gown some days, and others, a simple work frock, and on others still, she wore nothing at all. She was never the same, but always the same, never there, but always present. A ghost of the heart Viego no longer possessed, rent open when... when..."

Viego has stewed in bitterness over these losses for years, blaming everyone but himself -- including this year's Lunar Ox Squad."

Champion Insights: Viego

00_Header_RK_Concept_final_Web.jpgCheck out this article from Riot Cashmiir on Viego, the Ruined King - "...So you’re saying he’s available?"

"The Ruined King is one of the most iconic figures in League history. But that’s just it—he’s history. Viego’s life and the events that led to the Ruination happened 1,000 years ago, and although its effects are still felt throughout Runeterra, it was never anything more than an unfortunate chapter in the world’s history... Until now.
An Age Before Ruin
“After I finished Senna, our lead producer Ryan ‘Reav3’ Mireles made an offhand comment about how players seem to enjoy lore connections between champions, especially if they’ve heard about them for a while. Players loved seeing Senna, Lucian, and Thresh’s stories move forward,” recalls champion designer August “August” Browning. “I joked that we should make the Ruined King next to finish that storyline, and he looked at me and said, ‘That’s an amazing idea. That’s your next champion.’”
“Working on Viego was particularly interesting because he lived 1,000 years in the past in a nation that doesn’t exist in Runeterra. So that meant we needed to create an entire civilization in addition to Viego” explains narrative lead Jared “Carnival Knights” Rosen.
“I started by thinking about the type of person who would throw away everything to save the woman he loves—which was pretty much all we knew about Viego at that point. What’s he like? What was his world like? What motivates him?”

01_Viego_PreRuination_Web.jpg

PRE-RUINATION VIEGO CONCEPT FOR RUINED KING: A LEAGUE OF LEGENDS STORY BY ART DIRECTOR TYSON MURPHY
Second son to the King of Camavor, Viego knew only conquest and domination. Camavor is a long-dead expansionist empire that existed on a continent far east of Runeterra. Inspired by Conquistador-era Spain with influences from Camelot, Camavor is an empire of aggressive conquerors. But unlike Noxus, they have no interest in integrating with the societies they rule—they wish only to claim ownership.
“Viego was a young, untested king of Camavor who was never prepared for the role. He only received the crown after his older brother—Kalista’s father—died in battle,” Carnival Knights shares. “Viego’s selfish and self-centered, young and immature, and he has a lot of power. So when he sees this beautiful woman, Isolde, he knows he has to have her. And, being a commoner, she accepts.”
Brought up in a world where what you desire is yours for the taking, it’s hard to know whether Viego truly loved Isolde or loved that she was his. Regardless, he doted on her, ignoring his duties as king and instead focusing on romancing the love of his life.
But because Viego was a shitty king of a shitty expansionist empire, he gained numerous enemies—one of which attempted to usurp Viego, by means of a poisoned blade. Instead of freeing Camavor from a useless king, the blade found Isolde, and in doing so set the world down the path to ruin.
In a desperate attempt to save what he loved most, Viego brought Isolde to the Waters of Life on the Blessed Isles. But instead of Isolde returning with an outpouring of love, she lashed out in pain, fear, and rage. She stabbed Viego through the chest with his sword, and in doing so unleashed the Ruination—a blast which devastated the Isles, twisting all those present into monstrosities, including the land itself.

02_RK_Concept_final_Web.jpg

“My part of Viego’s process was a bit different from the usual process. Reav3 asked me what I thought the Ruined King would look like, and I immediately said he’d pretty much be Mordekaiser’s cousin,” laughs concept art lead Gem “Lonewingy” Lim. “But when I actually thought about it, I knew that wouldn’t really fit. He’s League’s big bad! I needed to make sure I did that justice, so I wanted to create something more unexpected than just another guy in armor.”
Using the Camelot and Conquistador-era influence from Camavor, his undying “love” for Isolde, and the absolute obsession with reclaiming what was his, she created the Viego we have now: Young, angry, ruined. But there was one thing she added as a finishing touch...

03_Viego_Portrait_Web.jpg

“When I was drawing my original Viego concept I put a hole in his chest—the one left by Isolde when she stabbed him with his sword. And I thought there was nothing more hopelessly romantic than a big, weeping hole in his chest where his heart should be,” says Lonewingy. “The Black Mist pours out from the hole, searching for his wife. It’s like his heart is crying for her! I just thought it was a beautiful physical representation of the pain he felt from Isolde’s loss. Plus it looks metal as f&^%.”
A Harrowing on the Rift
But a long dead king, ancient expansionist empire, and weeping-hearted-wraith do not a champion make. It was time for champion designer August “August” Browning to take everything the team had discovered and turn it into a playable champ.
“One of the things I really enjoy about making champions like Viego—and Senna, Jinx, and Vi—is that I’m making characters who already have distinct personalities attached to them. This type of champion design is a really cool space to explore, where I need to figure out how the mechanics tell the story of who the person is,” August shares. “Viego's obsessed with his wife, but that's not his source of power—it's his motivation. His power comes from being a young, petulant king and lord of the Shadow Isles and Black Mist.”
There’s nothing more kingly than being carted around in a litter, so August tried a kit similar to Yuumi’s.
Viego attached to an ally and followed them around the map, leaping out and attacking enemies whenever the opportunity struck. As fun as that design was, it didn’t feel like a king. He was bound to the whims of whoever he was attached to, incapable of commanding them to do his bidding.
Kings are sovereign over their people. Rulers by right, commanders by nature. So what kind of regal power over others would Viego have carried over into his post-life wraith state? The power to take over the dead, of course.
“I had an early idea that he’d possess his enemies, but there’s no fun in running around and just auto attacking—it’s only enjoyable if you get to do more than that. And stealing enemies’ abilities just fit so well with Viego,” August says. “He’s obsessive, he’s a wraith, and he’s a king. So he controls his dead subjects. And from there he just became this character where if he can kill someone he can become them. It’s his reward for converting them to his side. And it’s chaining that passive that leads to his most exciting gameplay moments.”
Creating a champion whose passive is to be an entirely different champion could be confusing to play against, but unlike Sylas, Viego takes over his enemy’s body. “Annie” doing Annie things makes sense. What the team really needed to do was find a way to make it obvious that “Annie” was still Viego.
An earlier iteration of Viego’s passive VFX by Riot Temcampy

“I needed to make sure that the dominated character read as themselves, but also said ‘I am Viego’ so players wouldn’t be confused when their mid laner was attacking them. We also needed to make sure it was simple enough to translate to every champion and every skin, both present and future,” explains VFX artist Trevor “Riot Temcampy” McTavish. “In one of the early iterations we used a shader to replace the entire champion as a ghostly figure. But this was too difficult to discern in the heat of battle. The solution we found was applying his crown and giving them a slightly different shade over their model to match.”

06_Viego_Splash_Web.jpg

Viego’s other source of power is the Black Mist, which he has complete command over. It ravages the land, transforming any living thing it comes in contact with, and brings everything back to its master. For the most part the Mist is contained to the Shadow Isles, but every so often a Harrowing (a super-concentrated manifestation of the Mist) allows the Mist to creep further into Runeterra.
So that left the team wondering: if Harrowings happened across Runeterra, why not the Rift?
“I originally wanted Viego to start a Harrowing on the Rift, covering the entire map in Mist, or slowly taking it over throughout a game. And when inside, Viego would be camouflaged,” August shares. “In another iteration the Mist was filled with ghosts and goblins, and his ultimate would summon an army of ghouls to attack his target. But covering the entire map with Black Mist didn’t feel good to play against because fighting against a permanently camouflaged Viego felt too similar to Evelynn and was frustrating to deal with.”

07_ViegoArmor.png

The design August landed on is a more localized Harrowing. Viego summons the Black Mist and haunts a section of terrain. When inside of it, he gains camouflage, dons his armor, and takes off, ready to hunt down his victim.
“Viego’s fantasy moment is killing someone and using their body to chain kill into four more bodies, eventually Penta’ing the entire team,” August explains. “He’s a champion who’s sped up to multi-kill.”
With the domination-and-Mist kit locked, that left the team to think about the type of weapon Viego would wield. If only there was some sort of sword that has existed since 2012...
Blade and Master Reunited
Blade of the Ruined King is one of the most iconic items in League. Maybe you’ve seen your ADC build it, maybe you’ve built it yourself, or maybe you were one of those Sett players. Regardless, how could we make the Ruined King without incorporating his i c o n i c weapon?
“I knew players would look for the Blade of the Ruined King when looking at Viego,” says Lonewingy. “But the icons in League are only so big, and I wanted Viego’s weapon to be bigger. I took inspiration from the Zweihänder, which is a German two-handed sword. In the item icon you’re only seeing a fraction of what it looks like, but when you play as Viego you get to use the weapon in its fullest.”

08_BORK_Web.jpg

“When we initially started on Viego I knew that he’d have to buy Blade of the Ruined King. Like, it would be ridiculous if it wasn’t a good item on him,” August laughs. “Originally Viego would start the game with the item already in his inventory. The idea was that it’d start off weak and gather power throughout the game in the form of souls. He started off with a small broken blade that had the old active that slowed people. But as he fed it souls, it eventually became the normal item, and then he could unlock it even further to become unleashed.”
The team planned on making this representative in his in-game model. So he’d start off the game wielding a little baby dagger and then end with the massive two-handed sword Lonewingy concepted. However, that design ended up on the chopping block—by the time August had come up with this version of the Blade of the Ruined King, he had already fleshed out the rest of Viego’s kit. So the soul-collecting sword felt a bit disconnected from the rest of his design.
The solution was to give Viego the August special: another passive. Viego’s Q is called Blade of the Ruined King, and grants him the ability to apply on-hit effects twice. When paired with the in-game item, Viego can get double the on-hit effect on each target as long as he weaves abilities with autos.
Seems the sword is happy to be once again wielded by its master."

Patch 11.2 Notes

Check out the Patch 11.2 Notes:

"Hi! A certain king has arrived, and so has another patch!

Here in 11.2, we’ve made a couple changes based around healing. First, we brought the spice and everything nice for Soraka; with the last buff to Grievous Wounds, she should now be in a better spot to wish your pain away. On the other hand, folks like Aatrox and Olaf have been healing a bit too well, becoming true terrors when matched with the right items and runes. To change this, we’ve shifted their healing to be tapped straight from their kits— true healing is on the inside, right?

As for items, we spruced up tank Mythics outside of Sunfire, the crowd favorite— although it's a name we all know and love, we're hoping to open the gateway to more item diversity, depending on the game state.

And that’s it! We’ll see you in the next one.

In the TFT world, the Festival of the Beasts mid-set has arrived! Take this portal to TFT patch notes to join in on the festivities.

Champions

[New] Viego

The Ruined King

Bring your darkest desires to life with Viego in patch 11.2!

akali.jpg

Akali

Q cost increased later.

Without her trusty Gunblade, Akali has recovered well, wielding several of the AP Mythics to her advantage instead (Night Harvester, Rocketbelt, Riftmaker). This has put her in a stronger spot than we’d anticipated, so we’re toning her down by reverting her buff from 10.23.

Q - Five Point Strike

• COST :: 120/110/100/90/80 energy >>> 120/115/110/105/100 energy

azir.jpg

Azir

Q cooldown decreased.

Azir lost the cooldowns on Nashor’s Tooth and thus, some of the wind beneath his wings. We’re giving him a lift by returning some of it directly into his kit.

Q - Conquering Sands

• COOLDOWN :: 15/13/11/9/7 seconds >>> 14/12/10/8/6 seconds

caitlyn.jpg

Caitlyn

AD growth increased.

Caitlyn’s a bit behind the curve amidst her peers, so we’re taking another shot to keep her hot on the trail.

Base Stats

• ATTACK DAMAGE GROWTH :: 2.88 >>> 3.3

darius.jpg

Darius

Passive Noxian Might bonus AD decreased.

Darius has found a new friend in Stridebreaker, which allows him to execute his combo while quickly stacking his passive. We’re trimming some bonus stats from his passive to match its new consistency.

Passive - Hemorrhage

• NOXIAN MIGHT BONUS ATTACK DAMAGE :: 30-230 >>> 20-205

mundo.jpg

Dr. Mundo

Q health refund on hit and on kill increased. E bonus damage increased. R health regen increased.

Dr. Mundo has been struggling in top lane and the jungle. Giving him a bit more survivability and trading potential, and increasing his signature healing to make Mundo more *slurp* Mundo.

Q - Infected Cleaver

• HEALTH REFUND ON HIT :: 40% >>> 50%
• HEALTH REFUND ON KILL :: 80% >>> 100%

E - Masochism

• BONUS DAMAGE :: 3/3.5/4/4.5/5 of his maximum health >> 4/4.5/5/5.5/6% of his maximum health

R - Sadism

• HEALTH REGEN :: 50/75/100% maximum health >>> 60/85/110% maximum health

elise.jpg

Elise

Spider Q damage decreased later.

With new items at her disposal and the buff on her Q in patch 10.23, Elise has been scaling too well. Time to wash the spider out.

Q - Venomous Bite

• DAMAGE :: 70/110/150/190/230 >>> 70/105/140/175/210

ivern.jpg

Ivern

Q shield ratio decreased.

The nerf to Triggerseed’s AP ratio in patch 11.1 was only reflected in Ivern’s tooltips. We fixed it so it actually affects his shield now (oops).

E - Triggerseed

• SHIELD RATIO :: 90% AP >>> 80% AP

leblanc.jpg

LeBlanc

Base health growth increased. Q cost decreased later.

LeBlanc may be all smoke and mirrors, but right now, she’s not fooling anyone. We’re helping this Deceiver by making it less punishing when she uses her abilities and when she engages in mid- to late- game.

Base Stats

• HEALTH GROWTH :: 92 >>> 97

Q - Sigil of Malice

• COST :: 50/60/70/80/90 mana >>> 50/55/60/65/70 mana

maokai.jpg

Maokai

E cost increased later; damage ratio decreased.

Maokai support hit a growth spurt in the new season, and his enemies are feeling a bit… sapped. Making it so bushes around Maokai aren’t as scary.

E - Sapling Toss

• COST :: 60/65/70/75/80 mana >>> 60/70/80/90/100 mana
• DAMAGE RATIO :: 1% per 100 AP >>> 0.8% per 100 AP

nocturne.jpg

Nocturne

Q and R cooldowns decreased.

Nocturne is falling behind his jungle pals, so it's time to give his shadows, Paranoia, and all around darkness some more stage time.

Q - Duskbringer

• COOLDOWN :: 10 seconds >>> 8 seconds

R - Paranoia

• COOLDOWN :: 150/125/100 seconds >>> 140/115/90 seconds

nunu.jpg

Nunu & Willump

Base movement speed and health decreased.

Nunu & Willump currently get to have their tank and eat their enemies too. We’re trimming some of their baseline stats so item and rune decisions carry more weight and give them appropriate downsides as well.

Base Stats

• MOVEMENT SPEED :: 345 >>> 340
• HEALTH :: 570 >>> 540

aatrox.jpg

Aatrox

E’s self-healing now increases during R. R self-healing decreased.

Champions like Aatrox and Olaf are able to reach a scary state with massive burst healing from items (Goredrinker and Ravenous Hydra) and runes (Conqueror and Ravenous Hunter). The moments where they feel untouchable aren’t healthy, so we’re shifting their healing to be sourced more from their kit rather than from systems.

E - Umbral Dash

• [NEW] IT DOESN’T END HERE :: Umbral Dash’s self-healing now increases to 26/32/38/44/50% during R - World Ender

R - World Ender

• SELF-HEALING :: 50/75/100% >>> 30/45/60%

olaf.jpg

Olaf

W life steal increased; healing amplification decreased.

Buff axe-throwing buddy gets a similar adjustment to Aatrox. These changes should also tone down Olaf’s overall power, since he’s been chop-chopping down the competition.

W - Vicious Strikes

• LIFE STEAL :: 14/16/18/20/22% >>> 16/18/20/22/24%
• HEALING AMPLIFICATION :: 0-50% (based on missing health) >>> 0-33% (based on missing health)

senna.jpg

Senna

Base AS ratio increased. Passive non-kill Mist Wraith drop chance and gold from Mist Wraith increased. Q healing and damage ratio increased.

Aiming to support support Senna with more gold so that she can buy more items. We’re also giving her Q and attack speed stronger scaling across builds, which should open up more itemization options.

Base Stats

• ATTACK SPEED RATIO :: 0.2 >>> 0.3

Passive - Absolution

• NON-KILL MIST WRAITH DROP CHANCE :: 22% >>> 28%
• GOLD FROM MIST WRAITH :: 3 >>> 8

Q - Piercing Darkness

• HEALING RATIO :: 25% AP >>> 40% AP
• DAMAGE RATIO :: 40% AD >>> 50% AD
• KRAK ON, THEN :: Senna’s Q on enemy champions now adds a stack on Kraken Slayer (max one stack).

shaco.jpg

Shaco

Passive damage increased.

Leaning just a little bit closer! into Shaco's exciting and unique points of play for stronger jungle clearing and assassination buffs.

Passive - Backstab

• DAMAGE :: 10-25 (level 1-18) >>> 20-35 (level 1-18)

soraka.jpg

Soraka

Q total Rejuvenation heal increased later. W heal and heal ratio increased.

We know you’ve been licking your (grievous) wounds since its buff last patch, so we’re increased Soraka’s heal power all around.

Q - Starcall

• TOTAL REJUVENATION HEAL :: 50/60/70/80/90 >>> 50/65/80/95/110

W - Astral Infusion

• HEAL :: 80/115/150/185/220 >>> 90/125/160/195/230
• HEAL RATIO :: 60% AP >>> 70% AP

trundle.png

Trundle

Q bonus damage ratio increased. W bonus attack speed increased.

Helping the Troll King get back on his feet in the jungle and top lane, with some added power to his clear and trading.

Q - Chomp

• BONUS DAMAGE RATIO :: 10/20/30/40/50% AD >>> 15/25/35/45/55% AD

W - Frozen Domain

• BONUS ATTACK SPEED :: 20/40/60/80/100% >>> 30/50/70/90/110%

varus.jpg

Varus

Base mana growth increased. R cooldown decreased early.

Varus is a straight shooter but he’s been behind the curve, especially with builds that aren’t attack speed heavy. Giving him a nudge up.

• MANA GROWTH :: 33 >>> 40

R - Chain of Corruption

• COOLDOWN :: 120/90/60 seconds >>> 100/80/60 seconds

zoe.jpg

Zoe

W minion spell shard drops updated.

With a new item landscape, it's time for us to add some pizazz to the pool of minion drops from Zoe’s Spell Thief. In doing this, we also removed Redemption because it offered frustrating power across the map when dropped.

W - Spell Thief

• MINION SPELL SHARD DROPS NOW INCLUDE :: Randuin’s Omen, Locket of the Iron Solari, Turbo Chemtank, Shurelya's Battlesong, Youmuu's Ghostblade, Goredrinker, Stridebreaker, Prowler's Claw
• MINION SPELL SHARD DROPS NO LONGER INCLUDE :: Redemption
• ITEM SHARD BUGFIXES :: Casting Zoe's W - Spell Thief with a shard of an item in her inventory no longer causes that actual item to go on cooldown. Additionally, using an item with a damaging passive right after using its shard no longer causes the second instance to deal 0 damage.

Items

Essence Reaver

Essence Reaver has been a little weak, so we’re giving it a bump up for mana-hungry champions.

• SPELLBLADE MANA RESTORE :: 3% of maximum mana >>> 40% of mana from damage dealt from Spellblade (before damage reduction)

Galeforce

Galeforce is outperforming the other marksmen Mythics, both in the “crit chance” space and for champions who can flex into Lethality. As such, we’re pulling back some of the power we gave Galeforce in earlier patches.

• CLOUDBURST COOLDOWN :: 60 seconds >>> 90 seconds (applies to Ornn's Typhoon as well)

Hextech Rocketbelt

While Rocketbelt's gap closing ability is its intended unique factor, it shouldn’t be the only source for engages every game.

• SUPERSONIC BONUS MOVEMENT SPEED :: 50% for 2 seconds >>> 30% for 1.5 seconds

Imperial Mandate

Despite a recent trip to the patch notes in 10.25, Imperial is still a strong item for solo lanes and champions with multiple CC abilities. Our priority here is to move it out of the hands of solo laners and to simplify its confusing trigger condition.

COORDINATED FIRE COOLDOWN :: Applies when ||| ally consumes the mark >>> initial application of slow/immobilize

Kraken Slayer

Kraken Slayer is extremely powerful on champion abilities that churn out on-hits. Those abilities tend to have on-hit modifiers for this exact purpose, so Kraken Slayer will now leverage those modifiers of the following champion abilities:

Aphelios

• Severum Q - Onslaught

Katarina

• R - Death Lotus

Urgot

• W - Purge

Shurelya's Battlesong

With the cost reduction to Chemtank, the niches for Shurelya’s and Chemtank are getting too close for comfort, so we’re differentiating the two while making it more suitable for enchanters and AP users.

• HEALTH :: 350 >>> 200
• [REM] BONUS MOVEMENT SPEED :: Shurelya’s no longer grants 5% movement speed
• [NEW] ABILITY POWER :: Shurelya’s now grants 40 AP
• BASE MANA REGEN :: 50% >>> 100%
• BUILD PATH :: Kindlegem + Faerie Charm + Winged Moonplate + 650 gold >>> Kindlegem + Bandleglass Mirror + 750g

Gargoyle Stoneplate

Given the premium price you pay for a Stoneplate, it’s not quite powerful enough, as it's very comparable to its cheaper Legendary competitors. We’re buffing up its durability stats to help you soak up all of the aggro.

• FORTIFY BONUS ARMOR AND MR :: 3% (max 15%) >>> 5% (max 25%)

Lethality Items

We’re lowering the cost of some of the utility Lethality items to create a new division of 2600 gold AD items, both for AD supports and traditional assassins.

Umbral Glaive

• TOTAL COST :: 2800 gold >>> 2600 gold
• ATTACK DAMAGE :: 55 >>> 50
• BUILD PATH :: Serrated Dirk + Caulfield's Warhammer + 600 gold >>> Serrated Dirk + Long Sword + Long Sword + 800 gold

Serpent’s Fang

• TOTAL COST :: 2800 gold >>> 2600 gold
• ATTACK DAMAGE :: 60 >>> 55

Chempunk Chainsword

• TOTAL COST :: 2700 gold >>> 2600 gold
• HEALTH :: 200 >>> 150

Marksman Legendary Items

We’re adjusting some of the stats on marksman Legendary items so that they give more attack speed than their components.

Phantom Dancer

• BUILD PATH :: Zeal + Dagger + Dagger + 850 gold >>> Zeal + Dagger + Dagger + 950 gold
• ATTACK SPEED :: 40% >>> 45%

Runaan’s Hurricane

• BUILD PATH :: Zeal + Dagger + Dagger + 850 gold >>> Zeal + Dagger + Dagger + 950 gold
• ATTACK SPEED :: 40% >>> 45%

Tank Mythics

Sunfire Aegis has been wildly popular in contrast to other tank Mythic options, even though they seem similarly powerful in terms of win rate. The hope is that by making a separate, lower price tier for the other tank Mythic items (with each also getting a kiss and a buff), they will have more occasions where they’ll be purchased by support tanks and junglers.

Sunfire Aegis

• MYTHIC PASSIVE :: 5 ability haste per Legendary item >>> 5% tenacity and slow resist per Legendary item

Frostfire Gauntlet

• TOTAL COST :: 3200 gold >>> 2800 gold
• BUILD PATH :: Bami's Cinder + Null-Magic Mantle + Chain Vest + 850 gold >>> Bami's Cinder + Cloth Armor + Null-Magic Mantle + 950 gold
• ABILITY HASTE :: 15 >>> 20
• ARMOR :: 50 >>> 25

Rimeforged Grasp (Ornn Upgrade)

• ARMOR :: 65 >>> 40
• MAGIC RESIST :: 35 >> 40
• ABILITY HASTE :: 20 >>> 25

Turbo Chemtank

• TOTAL COST :: 3200 gold >>> 2800 gold
• BUILD PATH :: Bami's Cinder + Cloth Armor + Negatron Cloak + 900 old >>> Bami's Cinder + Cloth Armor + Null-Magic Mantle + 950 gold
• MAGIC RESIST :: 50 >>> 25
• ABILITY HASTE :: 15 >>> 20
• MYTHIC PASSIVE :: 5% tenacity and slow resist per Legendary item >>> 5 ability haste per Legendary item

Turbocharged Hexperiment (Ornn Upgrade)

• MAGIC RESIST :: 65 >>> 40
• ARMOR :: 35 >>> 40
• ABILITY HASTE :: 20 >>> 25

Ruined Karma

1350 RP

"Surviving the initial ruination of Ionia, Karma is ultimately lost during a second one led by Viego himself. Ruined Shyvana

1350 RP

Shan Hai Scrolls Nautilus

RANKED CHANGES

Grandmaster and Challenger Ranked Changes: Let the Race Begin!
To make the race to Grandmaster and Challenger more exciting, we've changed the unlock process. Challenger and Grandmaster are still limited to the top accounts on each server, but players must have at least 200 LP in Master to reach Grandmaster, and at least 500 LP in Grandmaster to reach Challenger. Grandmaster and Challenger are no longer locked at the start of the season, so the race to be the first in your region starts on day one! Right out of the gates, you can race to have your name below mine!
Region Challenger and Grandmaster Quota Adjustments
Some regions are having their Challenger and Grandmaster slot counts adjusted to match their populations.

Fates Ranked Stage II begins this patch!
• Your rank has been "soft" reset down one tier below you. For example, if you are currently in Gold II you will now be in Silver II.
• If you are very good at this game and currently placed in Master or above, you will be reset to Diamond 4.
• You will get 5 provisional matches after the reset, meaning you will not lose any LP for sub-top 4 placements in your first 5 ranked games of the new stage.You’ll also gain extra LP for finishing top four, so best of luck!
Ranked Rewards Coming to a Patch Near You (Soon)
Don’t get too EMOTEional, ranked rewards for gold and above will be coming next patch, 11.3!
SYSTEMS
Lanterns
You get a prize, and you get a prize, and you get a prize! Everybody gets a prize! Just not every time.
• Lanterns are the new mid-set mechanic that can drop at various game times, or not at all. They can contain things like Item Components, Loaded Dice, Gold, and more.
Chosen Shop Odds
Consistency Buff.

• Level 9: 0/0/15/45/40 ⇒ 0/0/0/60/40
Reduced the chances of rolling a Chosen slightly, as in you probably wouldn’t have noticed if you didn’t read what you’re reading right now. This outta make it just a tad more difficult to force comps.
Carousel Changes
The best defense is a good offense.
• Removed the All Defensive Component First Carousel. Replaced it with a 2x Sword, 2x Bow, 2x Rod, 2x Tear, 1x Glove version.
NEW TRAITS

Dragonsoul
The first Dragonsoul allies to take damage in combat receive the Dragon's Blessing. While blessed, the unit gains bonus stats, and every 5th attack fires a Dragonsoul blast, dealing 50% of the target's maximum Health in magic damage.
• On death, this blessing passes to the closest Dragonsoul ally without a blessing.
• (3) Dragonsoul: 1 Blessing of 40% Spell Power and Attack Speed
• (6) Dragonsoul: 3 Blessing of 80% Spell Power and Attack Speed
• (9) Dragonsoul: 6 Blessing of 160% Spell Power and Attack Speed
Fabled
They may appear strong alone, but the power of all three together is ineffable.
• (3) Fabled champions' abilities are empowered from tales of their past valor.
Executioner
Executioner attacks and spells always critically hit targets beneath a certain Health threshold.
• (2) Executioners: below 33% Health
• (3) Executioners: below 66% Health
• (4) Executioners: below 99% Health
Slayer
Slayers gain Lifesteal that gets stronger as their own Health decreases, and deal bonus damage that scales up based on their target’s missing Health.
• (3) Slayers: 15 to 30% Lifesteal and Bonus Damage
• (6) Slayers: 25 to 50% Lifesteal and Bonus Damage
Syphoner
Drain the pain away.
All allies heal for some of the damage they deal with spells and attacks.
• (2) Syphoners: 10% for Allies; 40% for Syphoners
• (4) Syphoners: 25% for Allies; 100% for Syphoners
Daredevil
Samira makes her TFT debut. Like some other 5 cost units she’s got a new trait that acts as an exception to the rules less daring champion abide by.
• Daredevils seek the thrill of battle, dashing after every other attack. After every dash, they shield themselves for 10% of their max Health and their next attack fires 2 shots, gaining Style.
• At max Style, they cast their spell.
Blacksmith
Ornn’s breaking the rules, and runnin the jewels. Woo!

Tier 4
Morgana’s getting trait and ability swaps that improve upon her identity as a dazzling drain tank. She’ll still be dazzling, but she’ll be doing even more drain tanking with the new Syphoner trait at the cost of her Magic Resist shred. Morg’s tool tip may be a bit dazzled with her new changes. Expect a fix to that later, but for now know that her spell DOES NOT SHRED MAGIC RESIST.
• Aatrox Infernal Chains Damage: 250/450/1250 ⇒ 350/550/1500
• Morgana Traits: Enlightened Dazzler ⇒ Enlightened Syphoner

• Sejuani Mana: 70/150 ⇒ 80/160
Tier 5
Azir’s Crowd Control and Sand Soldiers have made him a must pick for just about any situation. By sanding down some of his CC, maybe some other players will shuffle him back into the pool so I can get to 9 Warlords more consistently. Speaking of consistency, Yone’s been far too strong as a mid game power grab, so we’re giving him a mini-rework. Yone’s now going to have to defeat his marked opponents faster if he’s to truly conquer his demons.
• Azir Emperor’s Divide Knock Up Duration: 2 ⇒ 1.5 sec
• Azir Emperor’s Divide Slow Duration: 4 ⇒ 3
• Lee Sin God Fist Damage: 250/450/1000 ⇒ 200/375/1000
• Yone Seal Fate Armor and Magic Resist Reduction: 60% ⇒ 40%
• Yone Seal Fate Shred and Unforgotten Execute Marker now only lasts for 8 seconds
• Yone Unforgotten Damage: 200/400/1000 ⇒ 350/600/1500
• Yone Unforgotten no longer deals missing health damage. Instead, Unforgotten will deal additional percent damage based on the target’s missing health for up to 100% additional damage
ITEMS

Turns out making a bunch of aura items to empower one super carry that then grabs a Hurricane and goes to town is a bit strong. Giantslayer is giving players Jack and the Beanstalk flashbacks, and that’s just not okay, because giants are people too. The new set has more healing mechanics (syphoner, slayer), so trimming some power from Hand of Justice and Hextech Gunblade will help prevent cases of extreme over-healing.
• Chalice of Power Spell Power: 35 ⇒ 30
• Giantslayer Max Damage: 90% ⇒ 80%
• Hand of Justice Damage & Healing: 45% ⇒ 40%
• Hextech Gunblade Max Shield: 400 ⇒ 300
• Hurricane Bonus Damage: 90% ⇒ 80%
• Statikk Shiv Bounces: 3/4/5 ⇒4/5/6
• Zeke’s Herald Bonus Attack Speed: 35% ⇒ 30%
• Zz’Rot Portal Construct now gains bonus 0/0/10/20/40/80/120/200 Armor and MR based on the Stage"

These posts will often contain talk about future work we're doing, or planning to do, that isn't yet guaranteed to ship. The work or goals could change depending on what we discover, and projects mentioned may get delayed or even stopped. That said, I believe it’s important to share as much as we can even if plans may change.
Small Rammus Update Coming Soon
If you watched Wild Rift's section of Season 2021 Opening Day, you saw their plans for bringing Rammus to their game through a freshened up take on this classic champion from the early days of LoL. The Wild Rift and League PC teams share the same core design values so we approach projects like champion updates together so that we can craft the best champions for each game’s needs. With Rammus in particular we collaborated to upgrade the parts of his gameplay that had aged the most while keeping his iconic speedy core intact.
Generally we want LoL PC and Wild Rift to be as similar as possible, but in the end, we'd rather have differences between League PC and Wild Rift than force one game to use the other's design where it doesn't make sense. Looking at Rammus’s biggest areas for improvement on PC, we put together a small list of changes to keep his core play pattern intact but upgrade some of the spells (like R) that are most under delivering.
Goals:
• Increase gameplay options for Rammus. Give a historically linear character more choices and interactions beyond just running at someone and taunting. Broadening gameplay should also help Rammus out in higher MMRs.
• Giving Rammus players a distinctive high-point that properly reflects his high-speed fantasy.
• Aim is to be power-neutral, with the understanding that these new tools probably buff him a bit at high MMR.
• Improve clarity and satisfaction on both VFX and SFX
(New R)
(New R combo's with Q)
Changelist:
• Puncturing Taunt (E)
• Taunt duration is increased by 250% on monsters.
• Cooldown :: 12/11.5/11/105/10 >>> 12 at all ranks
• Taunt Duration :: 1.25-2.25 >>> 1-2 seconds
• (Trimming some power here to account for his powerful new ultimate)
• Soaring Slam (R)
• Rammus leaps into the air and slams down at a target location, dealing magic damage and Slowing enemies for 1 second.
• If Soaring Slam is cast while Rammus is in Powerball, enemies near the center are also Knocked Up and take Powerball's collision damage, ending Powerball's effect.
• Rammus also generates 3 additional aftershocks at the target location, each one dealing a small amount of magic damage and refreshing the initial slow.
• Soaring Slam deals 200% damage to turrets.
• Soaring Slam's range increased based on Rammus' Move Speed.
• Cooldown :: 100/80/60 >>> 120/100/80 seconds
We haven’t forgotten about the Tahm Kench small update that we teased a few months back. He’s still in our plans, just taking longer because there is more involved art and sound work to do to make him polished and ship worthy. Thanks for the patience on that one, we’ll update again when it's coming to live.
Thanks again for playing League with us. Stay safe out there."

• SUMMONER SPELL BUGFIX Fixed a bug where the Summoner Spell in Udyr's D-slot would go on a 2 second cooldown every time he uses an ability"
• Riot Rovient tweeted, looking for opinions on Eternals:

[1] Eternals owners: having looked through the data for all Series 1, some are rare enough that they only tick up even once every 2-3 games on average. How do you feel about those types of Eternals? Really satisfying when you get one? Or so infrequent you forget they exist?

[2] Some examples: double kills during a Samira Ult. Multi-fear with fiddle ult. Nami ult knocks up 3 champions. Kills with Diana ult.

[3] If I decided certain eternals are just too rare to be considered good stats (eg: Samira's double kills during ult averages 1 per 5 games), would you mind if the criteria was tuned? Would make a far better Eternal going forward, but your progress so far will have less meaning.

[4] It would also mean the milestones for that eternal would be adjusted, too. Possible tuning could be: Jhin - max damage grenade hits on champs >>> grenades that hit a champion on the 4th bounce, for example.

[5] Some changes would be too much of a criteria change to be considered the same Eternal. Those would have to be retired and swapped, which is a whole other conversation (so very unlikely to happen). For example, Kills with Diana ult >>> multi champion hits with ult"

1) Check out these post PBE updates on the skins this cycle from the QA team:

Shan Hai Scrolls Neeko

"We've made following changes to SHS Neeko:

Blooming Burst (Q): Made the difference between hit and no-hit more obvious, added secondary pattern ('flower'), sun now changes position with each phase of the 3 explosions: https://imgur.com/a/7zyrjLe

Tangle Barbs (E): minor polishes, with intention to make it more visible: https://imgur.com/a/dxdr8TV

Pop Blossom (R): Added one more pattern in the first phase and cloudy elements in the burst phase: https://imgur.com/a/MmDJU5C"

Shan Hai Scrolls Jhin

"Jhin post-PBE notes:

Whisper (passive): added more bass to the 4th shot sfx

Dancing Grenade (Q): 4th bounce should be more visible ('hotter') when it's going to deal maximum damage

Curtain Call (R): Fixed a bug, causing mountains not to be visible for the on-ground indicator https://imgur.com/a/l1Elt8B

Curtain Call (R): The difference between first 3 and the last bullet more significant https://imgur.com/a/e42HPLI

Curtain Call (R): Added more oomph to last shot SFX (similarly to passive)

Shan Hai Scrolls Cho'Gath

"We decided to not make any changes to the skin."

Shan Hai Scrolls Nautilus

"No notable changes made to the Skin."

Ruined Karma

"Karma Post-PBE Notes:

• The team discussed Karma's skin tone feedback, and will not be mnaking changes to lighten it. We feel that the current tone is aligned with her base.
• Bug fix: Scrtipt was updated so her Mantle of Decorum animated and glowed properly.
• Added glowing eyes to Mantra (R).
• Inspire (E) shield spawn VFX have been polished, should be smoother.
• Mantra (R) + Focused Resolve (W) tether has been polished, it's now easier to differentiate from her unempowered Focused Resolve (W).
• Minor texture updates during Mantra (R) to make her more glowy."

Ruined Shyvana

"Shyvana Post-PBE Notes:

• Bug fix: Minimized major clipping.
• Bug fix: Slowed down her death animation, as it was playing too quickly.
• Bug fix: Flame Breath (E) VFX are no longer invisible, and have also been polished - satisfation around the missile, rebalancing some of the AoE VFX.
• Dragon's Descent (R) VFX have been updated, should feel more satisfying."

Ruined Draven

"Draven Post-PBE Notes

• Axe design will be remaining as-is. Context: The design was meant to be different from anything his current catalog as to offer. Additionally, the design is also in line with Viego/Ruined shape language.
• Similarly, the triangle will also be remaining pointy. We did discuss similarities with PROJECT, but feel that the Shadow Isles vibe of the design keep it differentiated."

SHS & Ruined Chromas

"edit2: to mark post PBE Changes & fixes:

fixed a bug when Karma's preview images were using her Mantra stance

fixed a bug when Nautilus' anchor was using parent skin colors during Dredge Line (Q)

Shyvana's chest emblem is now uniquely colored to match Chroma theme in her Dragon Form

we've decided to not to change Shyvana's Dragon Form eyes color to make it serve as a link to the abilities VFX

Edit. Jan 8th: Karma's hair have been updated!"

2) Riot Scruffy provided changelists for Patch 11.2:

Here's the goals for each of the champion update candidates:

vote1.png vote2.pngvote3.png vote4.pngvote5.png

For the full details on the champion update poll, check out this article by Reav3 - "Five options are on the table. Which champion should we update next?"

"Last year, we committed to holding another VGU poll where you could vote for which champion you’d like to see updated next. While we didn’t quite make it for 2020, we’re excited to say the polls are open.
You have until 11:59 p.m. PT on January 19 to vote. You may cast your vote directly in the League client, and your vote cannot be changed after submission.
We’ve selected five champions we see as high-priorities for updates, and we’re committed to working on whichever one you choose. It’ll take a few months to get rolling on development, but once we do, you can expect regular check-ins like we did for the Fiddlesticks and Volibear updates. This helps us collect your thoughts and feedback as we go so we can make sure we get it right, especially for mains who already love these champs.
Finally, if you read our last Champion Roadmap, you may be wondering what happened to the VGU we started at the end of last year. Our work here got delayed, so instead, we’re making good on our original promise and letting you all decide which champ we should focus on next.
With that, let’s jump into how we'd approach updating each of these champions.
Udyr
Udyr’s warrior-shaman theme feels unique to League, but his outdated visuals leave a lot to be desired. If we were to update him, you could expect major improvements to his art and a more modern take on his thematic.
At a high level, Udyr has one of the most interesting kits in the game. His form-swapping mechanic is iconic, and he's the only champ whose entire kit revolves around modifying his basic melee attacks—both of which we’d want to preserve. One thing we’d aim to solve is how one of Udyr’s forms tends to become his default state. Our goal would be to build a kit where all forms feel meaningful and useful, regardless of balance state.

Udyr_Splash.jpg

Shyvana
While Shyvana’s overall visuals and kit quality aren’t as low as some of the other champs in this poll, she falls under the category of champions like Irelia or Akali, who weren’t fully delivering on their thematic promise before being reworked.
If we were to update Shyvana, we’d want to really bring the fantasy of “warrior who transforms into a fire-breathing dragon” to life. In terms of gameplay, we’d want to make her dragon form feel more formidable and destructive while better differentiating it from her human form.

Shyvana_Splash.jpg

Nocturne
Nocturne’s an interesting case for a VGU. He’s one of the most popular champions among new players, but most of them drop him quickly. This suggests Nocturne's gameplay and visual fantasies are strong, but he’s not quite delivering on them.
If we were to update Nocturne, we’d want to really drive home his promised fantasy of a living nightmare who leaves his enemies in total darkness. Nocturne would keep his iconic ultimate, and we’d create a more deep and satisfying base kit to go along with it. We’d also modernize Nocturne’s visuals so can live up to his title as the Eternal Nightmare

Nocturne_Splash.jpg

Skarner
Skarner is one of the least played champs in League, and honestly he needs a lot of work. We’d want to fully reimagine his kit and theme, similar to older VGUs like Sion and Urgot. Skarner’s crystal scorpion fantasy is generic, and we’d want to give him a clearer, more exciting source of power. This would likely result in big changes to his visuals and story.
Finally, we’ve tried to rework Skarner’s kit in the past, but it hasn’t increased his playrate. This indicates it has deep-rooted issues—Skarner does a little bit of everything but doesn’t really excel at anything. We’d want to keep his ability to kidnap enemies with his ult in some form, but otherwise, we’d rebuild from the ground up.

Skarner_Splash.jpg

Quinn
We believe Quinn’s biggest issue is that her gameplay doesn’t really reflect her fantasy of “Demacian ranger working in perfect sync with a trained warhawk.” While Valor is depicted in her abilities’ visuals, they’re basically just bird-shaped missiles.
If we were to update Quinn, we’d want to redesign her kit so it feels more like you’re teaming up with Valor. Since Quinn has been played in so many roles, we’d be pretty open as to which one she lands in, as our main focus would be making her kit match her theme.

Quinn_Splash.jpg

Head on over to the League client to cast your vote, and stay tuned after the polls close for the results. We can’t wait to see which champion you choose!"

Viego - Abilities Rundown

Check out the details on Viego, the Ruined King's abilities! First up, here's an all-in-one video:

Check out the article here:

Viego_Splash.jpg

"Bring Ruination to the world with Viego, the Ruined King. Learn more about his mist-commanding, death-dominating abilities below.
"NO PRICE IS TOO GREAT. NO ATROCITY BEYOND MY REACH. FOR HER... I WILL DO ANYTHING."

Viego_Icon_Passive.pngViego_Icon_Q.pngViego_Icon_W.pngViego_Icon_E.pngViego_Icon_R.png

Passive - Sovereign’s Domination

Viego can temporarily possess enemy champions he helps kill, healing for a portion of their max health. During possession, Viego's items, attacks, and non-ultimate abilities become those of his slain enemy's, and he gains a free cast of his own ultimate, Heartbreaker. While possessing an enemy, Viego also gets bonus movement speed when moving toward enemy champions.

Q - Blade of the Ruined King

Passive: Viego’s attacks deal a percent of the target's current health as bonus damage on-hit. When Viego attacks an enemy he recently hit with an ability, the attack strikes twice. The second strike siphons health from the target instead of dealing regular damage, but still applies on-hit effects and can critically strike. This passive is maintained during possession.

Active: Viego stabs forward with his blade, damaging all enemies hit.

W - Spectral Maw

Viego charges up and then dashes forward, hurling a blast of mist that stuns and damages the first enemy hit. Stun duration and mist range increase with charge time, damage and dash range don't.

E - Harrowed Path

Viego spreads a wave of Black Mist around a nearby wall. While in the mist, Viego becomes Camouflaged and gains Attack Speed and Movement Speed.

R - Heartbreaker

Viego discards any bodies he is currently possessing and teleports forward, attacking the enemy champion in range with the lowest percent health and dealing bonus damage based on their missing health. Other enemies in range are knocked away.

/dev: The Latest on Dr. Mundo's VGU

00_Mundo_Banner.jpg

Check out the latest from the Dr. Mundo VGU team on their progress - "Mundo’s still under the scalpel, but it’s time for our routine checkup.":

"Hi all! It’s been a while since we shared our progress on Dr. Mundo’s champion update, and we have lots more to show today. Production is in full-swing, so we’ll be looking at his latest character model, animations, VFX, and SFX. Then we’ll take a peek at his Rageborn skin.
Before we jump in, let’s recap what we’ve shared so far.
Medical Professional Coming Through

We set out with three main goals for Dr. Mundo’s update:
1. Upgrade his visuals and theme, not only to look better, but to better fit in with how League's visual style has evolved.
2. Improve Mundo’s kit while maintaining his super-tank regen and ability to chuck cleavers.
3. Keep Mundo a very simple champion.
One of our early challenges for Mundo was landing on the right tone for his doctor theme—is he a brilliant doctor who went mad, or a “brilliant doctor” who is mad? We read a lot of your feedback after our first post, and we saw that the thing that was important to many of you was that we keep Mundo a fun and comical champion. So that’s the direction we’ve headed. Our goal is for Mundo to embody a “dark comedy” theme, which we think is unique in League’s champion roster.
As for gameplay, we tried a few directions for Mundo’s kit, but the one that stuck was making him an extremely difficult champion to lock down. Having CC-immunity in any form is a powerful tool, so as a trade-off, Mundo will remain a champ with no mobility or hard CC. And of course, he’ll still chuck cleavers.

01_Mundo_Concept.jpg

Finally, the last time we shared Mundo’s concept art, we heard that his hair was feeling a bit too well-kept for Mundo. We talked about that feedback as a team, and we agreed, so we’ve untidied him up a bit.

02_Updated_Mundo_Profile.jpg

AND NOW… ONTO THE NEW STUFF!
Madman Brilliant Doctor Escapes

Edgar “SpaceReptile” Monteon, Job Title: Character Artist
Being part of the development process for Mundo drew me in as a character artist right away.
Mundo’s visual process began with concept art to establish his identity, then these visual elements get "digested" (so to speak) and become fleshed out. Throughout, I spent enough time creating Mundo's sandal, dials, torn clothing to be completely immersed in the visual story that is Mundo. This immersive experience is what’s most insightful and fun for me, and it’s what I would like to share with you.

03_Mundo_Base_Model.jpg

Creating Mundo’s new model and texture is like setting the stage for other disciplines (like animators and VFX artists) to expand him further. We also have to think about how we retain what we love from Mundo’s old model. From a visual perspective, Mundo is an explosive character that does not fit in his clothing, and this is what makes him so threatening and powerful to me.

04_Mundo_Base.gif05_Mundo_Buff.gif

With new Mundo, you can see there’s more room for a more dynamic character—he wears a soft sandal and his animations have multiple layers of personality. It’s evident Mundo went through an ordeal of modifications and then escaped from somewhere. The type of outfit Mundo wears, as well as his weapons, are a tell-tale sign of what has transpired in Mundo’s recent past, and it was a blast painting in details that support this story.

06_Mundo_R.gif

Severely Stupid and Seriously Scary
Drew “sandwichtown” Morgan, Lead Animator:
During early exploration, I wanted to lean heavily on the silliness of Mundo and have some fun seeing how goofy we could push him. Part of what makes him unique is his severe dumbness, so it was fun exploring how dumb and weird he could be. We knew he also needed to feel dangerous though, and so the real challenge was balancing how seriously scary he could be while still being a bit of a caricature. Most of his core mechanics are meant to feel weighty and strong, but sprinkled in there are some moments of levity.

07_Mundo_Q.gif

Originally his Q was going to be a jumping toss, which felt pretty good but was feeling too happy and carefree. The current version has him really leaning into the ax cleave, only briefly breaking his stride to wind up, then continuing to trudge along immediately after while he grabs a new weapon from his bag. Having him continue his stride mid throw helps him feel determined and purposeful. Always marching forward.
His tower attack however highlights his stupidity and inability to feel pain...

08_Mundo_Tower.gif

Emotes will be a place to tip the balance a bit more goofy, but the core animation set will maintain the feel of an unstoppable brute. Mundo is not delicate, and he doesn't really use restraint. His movements should all be at 100% because he doesn't know how to hold back, which is why he is so uncontrollably dangerous.
Chemically Enhanced Physicality
Jason “LankyTree” Chisolm, VFX Artist:
As a long time League player, VGUs remain some of my favorite projects to be a part of, especially when it’s a champion as iconic as Dr. Mundo. I like to start out each and every project by coming up with a few VFX pillars—these essentially serve as guidelines for me. Every effect I make should help reinforce these pillars and be informed by them.
One of the major ones for this project was “chemically enhanced physicality.” I wanted to really emphasize that Mundo’s over-the-top strength and utter disregard for pain is the result of chemical augmentation and experimentation. The big standout example of this is Mundo’s ultimate. It’s this really iconic moment where we get to see Mundo transform into this HP regenerating monster. It’s something the team really wanted to highlight and bring a lot of attention to.
So let’s take a look into Mundo’s big bag of unstable chemicals and medical tools to see how it’s done.

09_Mundo_VFX.gif

How do we highlight such a big transformation? Well quite simply by making him big, so big he bursts out of his jacket, absolutely shredding it to pieces and sending the many buckles flying. Then we saturate him in some good old fashioned Zaunite chemicals. He’s so heavily saturated that it’s just evaporating off of him, surrounding him in this gaseous cloud, and what doesn’t evaporate drips off to really give a sense that he’s soaked in these chemicals.
The Sounds of Zaunite Chemicals
Jayvon “Riot Jirsan” Rymer, Sound Designer:
Like other VGUs, it's always cool to look at where we were before in comparison to what we are trying to evolve the champion into. For Dr. Mundo, I really wanted to keep a few things that players have come to know about him, but also push his physicality and strength even more. I really wanted it to feel like you are in a fight with a giant unpredictable force that only increases in power as time goes by. There were a lot of cool experiments that other disciplines were working on with his muscle expansion and size, so I wanted to make sure I captured a bit of that in his abilities.
A cool space that I had fun exploring was the sound of the Zaunite chemicals that he uses. I tried different things, like processing ice recordings to see what tonalities I could get from it, dropping ice cubes on a super hot pan with oil, and even using chicken recordings from our library and reprocessing them to get cool tonal textures. Nothing specific is quite ready to share yet, but here’s a bit of a compilation of some of the elements I was able to get from those explorations.
DR. MUNDO SFX EXPLORATION

One of the Skins
Sunuman “KindLeJack” DePandito, Surgeon-Hobbyist:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: There’s nothing more exciting than completing a champion update only to crack open their skin catalogue and see the vast potential which lies therein! At Riot we prize the “player focused mindset,” and I feel like there’s little more player focused than bringing the love and learnings from all those years of experience to a faithful old champ’s moldering cosmetic collection. The newer skins get cleaned up and adjusted to work with the new base design and there’s always wins to be had there, but the senior citiskins are the ones that really get to pop out of the salon ready to drop some jaws.
Speaking of which…

10_Rageborn_Mundo.jpg

Ready for the Rift Quest invitational PvP tournament, it’s Rageborn Mundo! Today I wanted to share one specific skin from Mundo’s impressive trove that is finally finding a home in a now-storied skin theme. “Red Mundo” is coming back with a bolder edge—paying homage to classic fantasy but updated for the current edition, Mundo burns with the rage of a berserker as he paves the road to victory with naves. Not even cute necromancers are safe!
Checkup Complete
That’s all we have to share for today. As always, we’ll be looking through your thoughts and feedback, so please keep ‘em coming. This will be our last post for Mundo’s VGU, and you can expect to see it on PBE in a few months. Until then, happy doctoring!"

Ranked 2021 Rundown

Ranked_2020_Banner_%25281%2529.jpg

Getting ready for ranked in season 2021? Check out this article with all the details on changes this year - "Welcome to a new ranked season! We've made some changes to the climb; here's what you need to know!":

"Welcome to the 2021 ranked season! We've made a bunch of changes to prep for this year's climb. Here's what you need to know!
New Account Placement
If you're new to ranked, we'll use your performance in normal matches to determine your initial placement rather than start you at a default position. This also improves match quality for everyone else since new accounts will be matched with players actually close to their skill level.
Lighter Start-of-Season Reset
For ranked veterans, the start-of-season rank reset is less drastic this year. Once you've finished provisionals, you'll start your climb closer to where you ended last season compared to years past.
Division Promos Removed
There are no more promo series between divisions (ex. Gold III -> Gold II), and any excess LP rolls over when you're promoted. Be careful—inter-division demotion protection is gone, too. If a loss drops you to 0 LP, losing again will drop you into the next division down.
You'll still go through promos between tiers (ex. Gold -> Platinum), and still have demotion protection between tiers.
Ranked Informed Matchmaking
Matchmaking will now check that your teammates and opponents are close to you in their displayed rank, not just their MMR.
Smaller LP Gains & Losses
Between placing higher, LP rollover between divisions, and removing division promos which granted no LP for the required wins, we're adding a lot of LP to the system. Left unchecked, that would slingshot everyone upward and prevent ranked informed matchmaking from working. LP gains and losses will be slightly smaller this season to keep matchmaking healthy.
LP Mitigation
If we detect an AFK on your team, you'll lose less LP for a loss (and the AFK will lose more) depending on how the game was going before the AFK. LP mitigation is stronger if your team was dominating but may not result in any LP difference if you were super far behind. There's a weekly cap to how many games LP mitigation can apply to.
Immediate Master+ Unlock
Master, Grandmaster, and Challenger are open right now. Check Riot Support for your region's tier sizes. Who'll win the race to Challenger rank 1?
Master+ Duo Queue Removed
Players in Master, Grandmaster, and Challenger can no longer duo queue. This improves match quality at the top of the ladder where the matchmaking pool is small and ensures the top of the ladder is representative of the best individuals on each server.
Diamond Decay Changes
Diamond now uses the same banked-game decay system as Master+, though with more relaxed tuning:
• Master, Grandmaster, Challenger
• Each game played banks 1 day of activity, up to 10
• After 10 days of inactivity, you'll begin consuming banked days
• Once all banked days have been consumed, you lose 250 LP each day until you fall out of Master
• Diamond
• Each game played banks 7 days of activity, up to 28
• After 28 days of inactivity, you'll begin consuming banked days (this initial grace period is skipped if you decayed into Diamond from Master+)
• Once all banked days have been consumed, you lose 50 LP each day until you fall out of Diamond
Best of luck on your Season 2021 climb!"

TFT: Bringing the Festival to Life

FoB_MakingOf_ArticleHeader.jpg

Here's a dev blog from Riot Beernana on the development of the Festival of Beasts arenas - "A behind-the-scenes look at new arenas from Fates: Festival of Beasts."

"Hey there, tacticians! The TFT team is excited to share with you what went on behind the scenes during the making of arenas for Fates: Festival of Beasts. From concept to execution, set 4.5 pushed the boundaries of what we can accomplish in TFT arenas. And of course, with that ambition came some unique challenges for environment artists, composers, and VFX artists alike. With the results, we hope to have opened up a whole new realm of possibilities for how you all experience a game of TFT. Keep on reading for the full story!
Let’s get into it! Here’s Gino to introduce you to the concepts for 4.5 arenas.
Concept Design
Going into set 4.5, we knew we wanted to celebrate the Lunar New Year with players. To do that, we had to make it a fun experience while remaining true to the traditions of the celebration. For a while we played with some traditional explorations of the theme, but we wouldn’t be TFT if we didn’t push it further. We took original arena concepts for a throne room and river village and dialed those up to 11. The throne room became a Chinese-inspired club (with our own adorable DJ), and the river village became a rooftop parade celebration, complete with hologram projections. The team was hyped about the idea; we knew this was the direction we wanted to go.
Our next challenge was to convey all of our grand ideas while still accommodating TFT’s gameplay needs. The club needed to feel like a club on both PC and mobile, and the same went for the rooftop parade. This meant that any visual elements needed to be visible and interactive on all platforms without getting in the way of anything important, like items.
We also had to be very thoughtful with our use of cultural art and symbols. Communication and collaboration became our strongest assets at this point. Shoutout to all of my “cultural consultants,” coworkers who were familiar with the Lunar New Year tradition, who gave very valuable feedback about what would resonate with all of youplayers. Thanks to multiple rounds of feedback and iteration, as well as the beautiful execution by our environment artists, VFX artists, SFX artists, and animators, we ended up with two great boards that I am excited to see released into the world!
I hope you enjoy what we’ve made for set 4.5, and with that I’ll hand things off to Jeremy on environment art!
Environment Art

Thanks, Gino! As usual, the environment artists were given beautiful art from the concept team to work with, and our first challenge was to bring those images to life in a 3D space. This included creating our first indoor arena, Club 2! With the previous success of our skyboxes and vistas, we were faced with the unique challenge of creating that same parallax in an indoor environment. We decided that by adding large windows to the Club, we could showcase a vast city in the distance, complete with a fireworks celebration. Beyond that, we added a sweet DJ Ox and concert stage and we were starting to really hit the vibe of Lunar New Year. For that iconic TFT twist of fun, we added little human touches like tables of food, disco balls, and confetti cannons.
For the Lunar City Arena, we wanted to create a futuristic facade on top of an ancient town. We also knew we needed water around the rooftop for floating boats that would emanate holograms. To achieve this, we worked with tech art to create a water shader and used a couple of simple textures to act as reflections.
As a final fun fact: this mid-set is also the first time we’ve introduced foreground elements to our arenas! In Club 2, we created a balcony overlooking the dance floor, and for Lunar City we created some futuristic pagoda-style buildings.
And now, I’ll pass it off to Isaac on VFX!
VFX

Thanks, Jeremy! For Fates we tried our hand at adding interactivity and reactivity into our arenas, like you’ve seen on the Kanmei, Akana, and Festival boards. But for this mid-set, we pushed that exploration even further. We wanted to include more clickable interactions with even bigger effects. We also wanted these interactive pieces to feel like more essential parts of the board. So, we pushed our tech in completely new ways. You can see this from DJ Ox in the club to the holograms in the city, which was one of the hardest challenges we took on. We had to create something that actually feels like a hologram—one that would celebrate with you ingame, at that. We worked closely with our concept artist to create the great flipbooks you see now. Using Mult textures (multiplying an alpha from one texture to another to the diffuse texture) and jittering around some additive versions of those flipbooks, we finally got the look we wanted.
Let’s hear it from Jason over on music!
Music
Thanks, Isaac! When we set out to write music for the new arenas, we had to figure out how to incorporate new tracks into the music you already hear throughout a game of TFT. Our usual TFT music consists of six music tracks, four musical transitions, and a handful of unique melodies to create a sense of progression throughout early gameplay. Sound designer Alison Ho and I worked together to simplify the TFT music system to allow for arena-specific tracks.
The Club 2 music had to feel like TFT’s stylistic departure from the Lunar Revel theme that still felt true to Lunar Revel. When building out this song, I referenced some of the melodic content from our Lunar Revel 2019 campaign to make it feel more familiar to players who really enjoyed the thematic. To keep it recognizable, I used traditional Chinese instruments to cue listeners into the Lunar Revel styles, and then processed them to fit with a modern EDM aesthetic appropriate for a nightclub. It was important that this music felt connected to the carousel and other arenas players might encounter in TFT, so we wrote the music in A minor for more seamless transitions.
We also wanted to include something fun and special for long-time TFT players. We’ve had some awesome TFT campaigns in the past that used an electronic music style similar to the Club 2 theme, so we thought it would be fun to incorporate some of those elements into the gameplay music. We managed to get the “DUDUDUNGA” song stems so we could add the vocals into our win stingers on this arena.

[TEAMFIGHT TACTICS | FATES - CLUB 2 ARENA THEME]

[LUNAR REVEL 2019 - LOGIN THEME (EXCERPT)]
[WIN STREAK MUSIC]

[WIN MUSIC]
Finally, here’s Alison with everything you need to know about SFX.
SFX
Thanks, Jason! Going into the SFX production for the Club 2 and Lunar City arenas, we were lucky to have a lot of concept art and mood boards to inform our work. After talking with the team’s Art Director, Marcus, we knew that we wanted these arenas to feel festive and celebratory like a traditional Lunar New Year celebration, but with a futuristic twist to capture the Lunar Revel thematic.
To achieve this, we used more traditional Chinese instrumentation (erhu, guzheng, metallic gongs) mixed with some newer elements (hologram digital effects, airhorns) as well as some crowd sound effects. In Club 2, this manifested mainly through the music, while Lunar City required a more ambiance-based approach:
Although the Club 2 arena is so heavily focused on music, the composer Jason and I still wanted the arena to feel like an experience if the player decided to turn the club music off. For example, if the player decides to mute the music in the client, there’s a very muffled ambient version of the music that plays to hint at the party that’s still going on.
[AMBIENCE WITH MUSIC ON]
[AMBIENCE WITH MUSIC MUTED]
We also created a stinger at the win or loss of a round, to let the music shine through for a moment whether the player had muted the music or not. This meant that whatever SFX played at the end of a round had to sound cohesive with whatever the player was hearing before. We played around with the key to make sure whatever off-set we created blended perfectly.
[STINGER WITH MUSIC ON]
[STINGER WITH MUSIC OFF]
Like Jason, we just had to sneak a bit of the Dududunga vocals into the SFX for the arena! I played around with various processing, pitch, and reversing to “remix” the vocals. You can hear the remix when you win streak, as well as a sadder version when you lose a round.
[DUDUDUNGA PROCESSING]
[DUDUDUNGA WINSTREAK AND LOSS]
DJ Ox was a particularly fun character to sound design for. DJ Ox jams along to the music and reacts to the player’s wins and losses, so I took some real bull and cow sounds and auto-tuned them for the character.
[DJ OX SOUNDS]
Finally, there was the Lunar City arena. As mentioned above, our goal was to add a futuristic feel to a traditional celebration. In addition to the hologram boats and holographic shop signs, we added some hover cars and traffic to sprinkle the environment with some futuristic tech.
[LUNAR CITY TRAFFIC]
[SIGNS]
[LUNAR CITY AMBIENCE IN-GAME]
The win and loss states, on the other hand, are focused more on the crowds and the live parade sounds. Pulling all these elements together, we wanted to bring the Lunar New Year celebrations to life during every battle.
[ERHU, GONG, DRUMS]
[LUNAR CITY WIN ROUND]
[LUNAR CITY LOSE ROUND]
And that’s the scoop on TFT arenas! Thanks for coming behind the scenes of Festival of Beasts and celebrating the Lunar New Year with us. We hope you enjoy playing set 4.5, and check out our Season Start video for more on the Festival of Beasts!"

2021 is shaping up to be a great year in Runeterra!

Universe Update

A new story is now up on the Universe! Check out Redeemed, by Phillip Vargas, featuring Senna!

"Senna woke with a gasp, her breath pluming in the frigid night. Slicked with sweat, her arms, legs, neck, and back were covered in a mantle of sand. A single thought tumbled through her mind.
You need to reach Bilgewater.
She sat up, and saw the dark waters of the Holnek streaming past the lonely riverbank. Her instincts were pulling at her again, speaking to her as they had since childhood. She had learned long ago to trust those feelings and hunches—and now they were telling her to leave."

FoB_BattlePass_Twitter.jpg

Here's the details on the TFT Fates II pass from Riot Beernana - "The Festival of Beasts comes with Little Legends, arenas, bundles, and an all-new pass."

"The Festival of Beasts is coming soon, and with it a whole host of visual and audio delights! In addition to the tried and true pass, Little Legends, arenas, and booms, we're also throwing everything together into all-new loot bundles. Now you Choncc lovers will be able to meet all of your Choncc-related needs in one go.
Of course, all good things must come to an end. These Little Legends, arenas, and bundles will only be available for purchase until March 4th.
Here’s everything coming in patch 11.2!
Fates II Pass
The Fates II Pass will work the same as it has in the past: play games of TFT, complete missions, and earn XP to unlock emotes, and Little Legend eggs.
For even more rewards, you can purchase the Pass+ for 1295RP. You can purchase the Pass+ at any point during this set and you will retroactively receive everything you unlocked along the way. The Pass+ includes everything covered in the base Pass and more. Upon purchase you’ll also unlock the delicious, delightful, delectable Dumpling Sprite.

These new Little Legends and their eggs release soon after the launch of Festival of Beasts with patch 11.2. Eggs will cost 490RP, and base versions of new Little Legends will be available for direct purchase for 925RP.
Arenas

In addition to the Pass arenas, Festival of Beasts comes with two incredible interactive Lunar Revel arenas:
First there's Lunar City, sporting gorgeous rooftop views of the city’s streets, hologram parade, and lantern festival. You can explore this arena a little more to discover interactive shop signs, canal boats, steam vents, and more.

Copy_of_LunarCity6.png

But if you wanna be where the real party’s at, Club 2 is the arena for you. In addition to interactive confetti cannons, stage VFX, and a dancing DJ with one rad septum piercing, Club 2 also comes with its own soundtrack.

Copy_of_Club2_6.png

CLUB 2 SOUNDTRACK
Lunar City will be available for 1380RP and Club 2 will be 1900RP at launch.
Bundles
We've bundled arenas together in the past, but this mid-set we're expanding on that idea in a big way. This time around we'll have five unique bundles available for purchase.
Want to experience the sights and sounds of the Lunar City arena? There’s a bundle for that. Are you a Shisa/Furyhorn/Choncc lover? They each have their own bundle that includes an egg and an exclusive boom. And, if you’re really looking to experience it all, the Mega Bundle has you covered.

Last, but certainly not least, we'll be shipping out emotes for everyone who ranked between Gold and Challenger in Fates Stage I. They should arrive in your inventory soon after the launch of 11.2."
