12.16! We're cutting Vlad and still making some adjustments before locking the patch, but to give an early preview!

    2) Here's the latest from the r/LeaguePBE feedback threads:

    Udyr

"Edit 8/17: Some more updates that should be on PBE already or will be soon:
    • Spirit Guard Udyr stance specific on kill VFX added
    • Spirit Guard Udyr Mo-graph splash added
    • Added new SFX for Spirit Guard stun in 'Bear' stance
    • Increased chest hair on Udyr, increased the highlights and shadows on his model, and added more gray in his hair and beard
    • Standardized his size across skins
    • Late edit: Spirit Guard Udyr stances now evolve at rank 4 instead of rank 6"

    Prestige Cyber Halo Janna

    "Post PBE cycle update:
    - Janna received an update on her belt tassels hair physics.
    - Passive VFX should now be more shiny
Team felt that the rest of suggested additions/changes would not improve the skin in a clear way or was out of scope for PBE update cycle. Thanks for constructive feedback & comments!"

     Strike Commander Camille

    "Post PBE cycle update:
    - Splash adjusted around face and chest areas
    - Q and R SFX should come with more OOMPH now
Thanks for constructive feedback & comments!"

    Cyber Halo Janna

    Post PBE cycle update:
    - Janna received an update on her hair physics
Team felt that the rest of suggested additions/changes would not improve the skin in a clear way or was out of scope for PBE update cycle.
Thanks for constructive feedback & comments!

    Chromas

    Post-PBE update:
Hello everyone! Thank you for all your comments and feedback. We have implemented some changes. The summary can be seen below:
    Cyber Halo Janna:
BUGFIX: Added green vfx on the model to wings during Ultimate.

    Aether Wing Kayle:
Chromas now have unique colors on wings when Exalted
Changed the hair color of Ruby Chroma to black
Adjusted saturation of hair on all other chromas
    Admiral Renata:
Toned down brightness & saturation of hair

    Bullet Angel Kai’Sa:
Added facial void marks to Bullet Angel Kai’sa skin and all her Chromas

Thank you once again for all your comments & feedback! See you in the next thread!

    Armored Titan Nasus

    "Post PBE cycle update:
We have run a second internal review to verify the concerns about the silhouette. However, our gameplay designers did not flag anything in the design, thus we won't be making any changes to Nasus.
Thanks for constructive feedback & comments nevertheless!"

    Strike Paladin Lucian

    "Post PBE cycle update:

As most comments revolved about main design pillars for the skin, we are unable to make any meaningful changes. However, the notes about thematic & execution similarity have been passed to the relevant folks for future reference.
Thanks for constructive feedback & comments!"

     Battle Academia Ezreal Mytic Chroma

    Post PBE cycle update:
    - Hair and glove color was changed to light blue, when Ezreal has his passive stacked.

edit: We also increased quality and fidelity of Chroma's VFX in addition to coloring them more blue (to match updated passive look). It should now be much closer in this aspects with BA Ezreal.

Here is an album showing changes made:

Here's Reav3 & Riot Phroxzon in a video detailing Champions & preseason in 2023 - "Reav3 covers new champions, VGUs, and ASUs. And Riot Phroxzon talks about our plans for Preseason. Plus a sneak peak at the updated Gothic thematic."

Here are a few extra context tweets:

FUN FACT! Reav3 mispronounced K'Sante's name because we changed the pronunciation after conferring with the voice actor. @SkiptoMyLuo's research led him to the old pronunciation (kuh-SAHN-tee), but the talent was more comfortable with kuh-SAHN-tay, so we went with that!

Ixtal and Darkin champs are actually flipped since the filming of this video :) there are some complexities around our darkin gal that needs a tad more work into. https://t.co/P7FeJsjkny

There are also a bunch of higher level design considerations that prevent us from solving the problem with a heavy handed solution, like complexity of game, intuitiveness of design, within role balance, strategic incentives, etc.

LoL Pls: Preseason 2023 Jungle Changes

081022_LoL_Pls_Preseason_2023_Changes_Banner_v2.jpgHere's Riot Phlox, Cashmiir, and Riru with an early look at Preseason 2023- "More details on the Preseason 2023 jungle changes."

"Hey junglers, it’s been a while since we last updated the jungle in a meaningful way, and honestly our plant-laden home between the lanes is in need of a bit of love. Speaking from one jungle main to another (Editor’s note: Can you call yourself a jungle main if you play Shaco?), the role hasn’t kept up with the times and is in need of a touchup. I know, I know, “Riot reworks jungle” is a scary headline to read; I’ve been jungling since Season 2, so I feel you.
Jungle is a powerful role, but also the punching bag of the team. We’re supposed to gank every lane, control all the macro, perfectly farm our camps, and set up vision ALL at once. It’s a lot. And that’s awesome—that’s why we main this role—but it’s way too much to jump into without a pool noodle.
We don’t want the majority of players to actively avoid playing any role, and the truth is we’ve failed at that metric when it comes to jungling. In the recent LoL Pls, Riot Phroxzon talked a bit about our plans for Preseason with communication and vision systems, jungle changes, and Chemtech Drake being our major areas of focus. Because we filmed the video a while ago (that’s how it works, by the way), I’m here to share some extra details for those of you wanting more!
Many League players see the wildly complex set of strategies and game knowledge required to be even slightly competent at the jungle and are scared away. We want to lessen this barrier to entry. One of the ways we’ll do that is by easing players in, showing them how to play the role, and adjusting mechanics so they’re less punishing and more intuitive. The goal here is absolutely not to “dumb down” the jungle or remove the ability to show off your jungle knowledge, but to make sure that jungle is complex in the right places.
We’re currently exploring some changes like jungle pathing aids—think something similar to recommended items but instead it’s how to do your first clear, a stepping stone toward mastery of the role.
We’re also looking into adjusting the way camps leash, including their ranges and reset rules. When you’re newer to the role and accidentally lose camp patience it feels like you’re getting slapped in the face. Even for experienced players the rules are finicky and sometimes your champion feels useless because they can’t abuse these rules as well as other champs. The jungle itself shouldn’t be the deciding factor as to whether a champion is viable.

    081022_Fiddle_Leash_Fail.jpg

Right now in League, it’s not realistic to expect a ton of different characters to be viable at the highest levels of play because a lot of them simply can’t optimize their clears enough to stand up with the rest. Will Rammus ever be powerful in high skill brackets with a clear as slow and as fragile as his is right now?
If jungle clear optimization is no longer a major barrier-to-entry for jungle viability, way more champions can be played there. The meta is less set in stone, the jungle itself isn’t telling you that you’re bad at the game just because you picked Warwick and wanted to take raptors. Skill should be rewarded across the roster of champs, not only on the select few that can effectively clear the current jungle. Some amount of the skill expression around clearing your jungle will be lost with these changes, but that means we can move some of the jungle’s complexity and skill away from clear optimization toward other places. We think this'll be a good tradeoff for the jungle overall.
Riot Phroxzon also talked about some of our plans for the communication system changes, and we’re really thinking about the ways they can be used by junglers as a method of skill expression. Jungling is reliant on proactive communication so we’re making sure the role has more tools to do exactly that. It’s also the role most focused on macro strategy. But actually getting your team on board with your calls can feel like an impossible task. We’re exploring giving junglers more tools to get their team to take objectives, or to broadcast their ganks to their laners, among other ideas.

    081022_Greater_Murk_Wolf.jpg

The last major change to the jungle this Preseason will be the jungle items. The current items are functional, but they aren’t that exciting or (particularly in the case of red smite) understandable. The reason most of us are drawn to the jungle is because it’s different from laning—we don't want to sit in a lane and farm with dinky Doran’s items. The goal of the jungle item changes is to get them to express the difference between culling cool camps and farming boring minions.
Some of you might remember the old days of Spirit of the Elder Lizard or Wriggle's Lantern—back when jungle items felt more meaningful and impactful. Let’s be honest though, those were problematic in their own ways. We want to capture some of that fantasy with a bit of a twist this time... pets.
These pets will help you do little things in the jungle like clearing or taking down epic monsters (think old Sated Devourer puppy). As you jungle, you slowly raise and feed your pet until they’ve grown up enough to be able to empower you.
We haven’t locked the final design (or art) of these yet, and in order to save you (and my editors) from having to understand what I’m trying to convey with text, here are some pics. Just keep in mind these will not be going live and the final design will very, very, very likely look different from this:

    081022_bb_wulf_web.jpg

Our earliest prototype was a jungle wolf that followed you around and whenever you killed a camp, Ahri’s foxfire missiles shot into the wolf’s mouth. At a certain point the wolf got really, really small (unlike our love of it) and attached to your head. Then a recolored version of (soon-to-be-outdated) Udyr’s Tiger Form glowed on you while Aatrox’s ult activation sound effect played repeatedly (and globally oops).
Believe it or not, this is what peak game design looks like.

    081022_Udyr_JGL_WIP_WEB.jpg

As to what it actually does? We're keeping that secret for now while we lock down exactly how strong we want the empowerment to be relative to base kit, runes, items, etc; as well as exactly what tools we want it to provide to junglers.
Past that, there’s a fair number of questions we’re still thinking about the best answer to. Is Scuttle working the way we want it to? Should junglers invade as much as they do? How important should junglers be to taking epic monsters? And so on and so forth. We’ll keep searching for these answers as we continue to build Preseason. Thanks for reading and be sure to thank your jungler in your next game!"

We’re Deleting Some Very Inactive Accounts

    riot-games-data-purge-deleting-old-accounts.png

Here's an article from Riot on deleting inactive accounts:

"The world is full of bad actors. People who want to steal data, cause issues, play Teemo, you know, the usual. We want players to know that their accounts and personal data are safe so we have been ramping up our security and privacy efforts. This year, after a long time coming, we officially launched 2FA to help improve player security. Next up, we are about to take a new step to delete very inactive accounts!
People go AFK, we get it. But sometimes they never come back. We use your data to improve your experience, and if you don’t need it, we don’t either. We’re committed to only keeping data around for as long as necessary, and this means removing accounts that both haven’t been active in a while and never did much to begin with (e.g., never bought anything, played many games, unlocked much content, etc). We want to respect player’s decisions and privacy by removing their data. We welcome these players back at any time and invite them to create a new Riot Games account whenever they are ready.
    What is an inactive account?
A Riot Games account is considered inactive when there has not been any login activity across any of our games, applications or web properties for over three years.
That means that even if you haven’t played a game in a while or logged into a game client, your account will still be active if you’ve logged into any of our web properties such as riotgames.com, support.riotgames.com, leagueoflegends.com, lolesports.com, valorantesports.com, etc.
What inactive accounts are being deleted?
We have adopted a very conservative policy for determining which inactive accounts are being terminated. Accounts must meet all of the following criteria in order to be considered eligible for deletion as a result of inactivity.
    • Account is inactive (see Definition above)
    • Account did not purchase any game currency in its lifetime
    • Account did not receive any game currency in its lifetime
    • Account has played fewer than 20 hours
    • Account does not own any rare limited edition game entitlements
As you can see, our policy is very specific and will not apply to most of our players. This inactive account deletion process will run on an ongoing basis.
Will I be notified if my account is subject to deletion?
Absolutely! If your account has been marked for deletion due to inactivity, you will receive an email at the email address we have on file for your account. You will not be able to log into any of our games, applications or web properties with the exception of support.riotgames.com.

How can I prevent my account from being deleted?
We will begin enforcing this new inactive account deletion policy over the next few months. If you receive an email about your account being subject to deletion due to inactivity, you can visit Player Support, login to your account, and follow the instructions to opt-out of the account deletion!"

We’re also tapping down Divine Sunderer and First Strike’s power so they aren’t always super effective. Now come with me, the time is right — it’s patch 12.15!

    /Dev: Star Guardian Narrative

08082022_SG2022NarrativeArticle_00_HeaderT.jpg Here's Riot Lady Smalls with a look at the Rioters behind the Star Guardian narrative - "The words and wordsmiths behind Star Guardian’s stories."

"Hello players and lore enthusiasts! I’m Stephanie “Riot Lady Smalls” Bedford, Narrative Producer on League and Wild Rift and a resident Star Guardian expert!
It has been a minute since the Narrative team put out a /dev blog (Hello 2019! We were all so much younger!). Since then, we’ve been deep in the word mines™, but we’re really happy to speak with y’all today. The League Narrative team has changed quite a bit since we last spoke, and we have a big new cast of Rioters to introduce (including me, hi!) as well as some returning favorites.
When we started on this year’s chapter of Star Guardian, we wanted to make sure we delivered on the commitments made when we reflected on the Sentinels of Light event. Today is intended to give you a peek at what it took to make the Star Guardian event this year.
Star Guardian 2022: Written in the Stars
We were super excited to bring back Star Guardian, and to expand on the story we started seeding in 2019. A lot of players around the world have been fans of this world since then (or even before!), and we were ready to get you all back into this world. Star Guardian is one of our favorite thematics internally for a huge amount of us, and it’s incredible to see how many of you are invested in this story each time we add more.
When thinking about the stories we wanted to tell this year, we had overall goals that we prioritized while crafting the narrative of this next iteration. We wanted to honor continuity, elevate Lux and her team to their well-deserved “legendary” status, reflect the changes that team made on their world, make space for a new generation of Guardians, and ensure the new Guardians reflected and challenged the values instated by the previous Guardians’ successes and failures. In short, we wanted to focus on topics like identity, relationships, and belonging, things that are part of the universal human experience... while also telling the stories of magical heroes who are protecting and saving the world while still trying to pass their high school classes! Things we can all relate to.
From the very beginning of development, the Narrative team created a strategy to ensure the event would be consistent across every game and execution. Because the event was planned for League of Legends, Wild Rift, and Legends of Runeterra, we wanted to make sure that players experienced a unified Star Guardian Universe that was consistent across all of our games.

    g.jpg

We also wanted to incorporate learnings from the Sentinels of Light, Spirit Blossom, and RiotxArcane events to make Star Guardians bigger (and better) than other story-driven events we’ve done. With that feedback we felt it was imperative to empower other teams with information as storytelling experts to ensure Star Guardian still felt like Star Guardian, no matter the medium. We wanted you as players to be able to invest in the truth of this Universe and the stories we are telling. This led to a strategy that became our North Star (hehe) in many conversations along the development.
The following are the Narrative pillars which were the foundation that let us bring Star Guardian to life:
    • Narrative for this event must be cohesive with past Star Guardian lore.
    • Story moments of the past should be felt in the future; character and story changes are durable.
    • All narrative content takes place somewhere on the Star Guardian canonical timeline; chronology and continuity are maintained and story moments should not be represented more than once.
    • All content must align to the tone and thematic pillars of the Universe; products and media can have variance but share the same core truths.
Narrative cohesion was our top priority for Star Guardian, and the League Narrative team (who wrote for both League PC and Wild Rift) worked closely with other teams at Riot to ensure everything for Star Guardian was cohesive and worked together to tell a single story. We also made sure to keep future Star Guardian storytelling in mind, because if one thing’s for certain, we’ll never truly leave Valoran City.
We were also very aware of the need to pay off our narrative debts. Basically, investing in certain character arcs we’d already begun and eliminating some of the unhelpful ambiguity in the stories that previously existed. To do this, we worked with other teams on the campaign to continue stories like Star Guardian Xayah and Rakan’s story arc on Wild Rift as well as keeping Star Guardian’s core truths of friendship and chronology in mind in things like Everything Goes On, the vlogs, comics, and other content all along the Star Guardian Event.

    08082022_SG2022NarrativeArticle_BattleTwilightStarWeb.jpg

I just want to warn y’all that this part might get a little in the weeds with Narrative processes, but I think it’s important to explain just how much time we spent thinking about this.
We worked closely with all of the various teams on Star Guardian to make sure that every piece of content created worked together to tell the cohesive story. Everything that you’ve seen across League, Wild Rift, and Legends of Runeterra—Star Guardian Seraphine’s Vlogs, Another Sky, Everything Goes On, Shadow of a Doubt, Twin Stars, the skins... The list is too big to name.
We created documentation around the story (the number of documents I’ve seen and maintained...) to present to our partners both around Riot, and externally. Because each decision made in this campaign—even something as small as the publishing date of an editorial article—could impact the overall story and how we told it, we were careful to prioritize narrative outcomes through production details. We wouldn’t want to spoil the end of Another Sky without players having the chance to finish it, after all!
Because of this focus, the entirety of Narrative was empowered to surface opportunities throughout the process of creating Star Guardians 2022 (which we’ve been doing since 2021!) so the story would be stronger for all of you. A lot of this effort is seen in small things, like the art style cohesion from game-to-game, the sound effects of the skins, and the canon-ified Previously on Star Guardian article from before the event started. The goal was to make this event an event that you could jump right into and love, regardless of your previous familiarity. We wanted to invite everyone to come love the thing we put so much effort into creating and lower that barrier to entry where possible.

    08082022_SG2022NarrativeArticle_Morgana-Encounter-01_WEB.jpg

Internally, we maintained a dedicated weekly Narrative sync that was across all products to make sure all parts of the event were working in concert with one another. There was so much respect from our partners during the entire process, and we worked together to find creative pivots any time we ran into issues. We had a Narrative representative advocating for the story every step of the way, and we hope that is something that our players feel when they look at the cohesion of the storytelling across the whole event.
Our regional teams also created some really amazing ways to honor the Star Guardian Universe and take part in the event in their regions that helped expand on the Universe. It was amazing to be partners to so many globally and support their lore questions and truly unique experiences they created.

    A Word of Thanks

Making Star Guardian this year was a labor of love, and it couldn’t have been achieved without so many amazing Rioters who brought their whole heart to the writing. Creating something of this scale takes an army and, even if I’m only highlighting a single discipline here, I’d like to take a moment to list out those contributors who are deserving of all the praise I can muster:
    Event Narrative Production: Stephanie Bedford

    Event Lead Writer: Jared Rosen

Another Sky Writing: Jared Rosen, Ty Sheedlo, Taylor Dinwiddie

All of this is to say... Star Guardians was, is, and always will be a love letter, by fans for fans. None of this would have been possible without the support and understanding of players around the world. And it’s only because of you that we’re able to do things like this!"

"Welcome comp forcers and correct players alike!

It’s time for another patch. And why stop with this one? Make sure to check out the sizeable changes to my new name (and the game) that we shipped during our 12.14 mid-week update, just last week! As for here, we’re focused on buffs to ensure all comps can thrive—even Nomsy carry! Oh there’s also new Pool Party content hitting the Convergence!

New Pool Party Umbra Variants and Mythic Ao Shin

TFT_SET722_Comms_PoolParty-Article_Banner_v001_ALyu.jpg Here's Riot Prism a look at Pool Party Umbra variants and Summer Splash Ao Shin, now available - "New Pool Party Little Legends make a splash in patch 12.15—read about ‘em here!"

"There’s new Pool Party Little Legends making a splash in patch 12.15! Let’s dive in!
You can purchase any of the five Pool Party Umbra variants directly, or crack open a random one in a Pool Party Egg at a reduced price. Pool Party Eggs will also have a chance to contain the Mythic Summer Splash Ao Shin (2 percent drop rate, but guaranteed by the 16th egg). Pool Party Eggs are available until our Dragonlands Mid-set launches, but the direct purchase Umbra(s) will remain available permanently.
Alright, first let’s get into the pricing, then let’s meet our pool party pals!

    sdsdf.png

The Mythic Summer Splash Ao Shin
First off, let’s address the potential confusion between the Ao Shin(s) found across the Convergence. The main difference between the two is that the Legendary Tempest Dragon Ao Shin chills his foes when his mana pool fills, while Summer Splash Ao Shin chills with his foes when any pool is filled.
Summer Splash Ao Shin is the stand-up-paddleboard type of Little Legend that vibes in all the right ways. They’ve got their own unique animations and sounds—oh my the sounds. They’re just one musical performance from being the summer swoon of everyone in earshot—just lend them your eyes and ears below.

    asasasa.png

As mentioned earlier, Summer Splash Ao Shin is guaranteed to drop by the 16th egg, but they have a two percent chance of dropping each egg prior.
    Pool Party Umbra Variants
There are more Little Legends joining Choncc and Ao Shin in Splash Town, and they’ve all got a unique flair to bring—just like you <3.
There’s the prankster Scuba Shark Umbra, who between you and me, doesn’t even need that dive gear—maybe that’s why it keeps washing up at the Splash Party arena?

    sfgdhh.png

Did you know Sunkissed Umbra learned the Ukulele, just so they could play to the melody of your soul. Yeah—they’re a sweetheart.

    s3.png

Sunkissed Umbra may be a sweetheart, but Fruity Smoothie Umbra is the true master of sweetness. They’re a passionate mixologist with a flair for blending trait combos with an assortment of items for that smooth LP taste.

    d4.png

After you are done with Fruity Smoothie Umbra’s filling smoothie let’s get right to swimming. Wait, aren’t you supposed to wait 30 minutes before you go in? Of course not, there’s no scientific basis for this recommendation, and Lifeguard Umbra knows that, alongside CPR, water rescue skills, and of course, good vibes.

    sdfh.png

Last, and definitely the littlest, is Little Shark Umbra. A fun fact about them is that they’re working on a cute new song that’s sure to drive you crazy. It goes something like this, “Little Shark doo doo doo doo doo doo,” but to be honest, they’re much better playing the ukulele without singing.

    Champion Skins

Three new skins are now available:

    Zap'Maw

    1350 RP

The Zap'Maw is a curious monster that baffles even the most experienced of Tamers. Sightings are limited to abandoned ruins that only the bravest dare enter. But taming one is an even more challenging task. Only one Tamer has succeeded so far, their bond—and the Zap'Maw's lightning attacks—growing stronger each day.

    Monster Tamer Lulu

    1350 RP
Though she's new to the scene, Lulu exemplifies what it means to be a Tamer. She's studied the CORE (Compact Object for Relay and Engagement) manual front to back. She's even used it in the field a few times! Her latest discovery: Zap'Maw, a creature as dangerous as it is adorable.

    Monster Tamer Veigar

    1350 RP

Veigar has big plans. BIG. First, he'll amass an army of monsters, preferably from the darkest, scariest corners of the land. Then he'll use the CORE to create a bond with said monsters and amplify their power. Then he'll take over the world!! Hmm... he might have missed a step.
